Rose Mint Agastache is a captivating aromatic perennial that bridges the worlds of mint and anise in a single plant - the upright spikes of rosy-pink to lavender flowers carry a complex fragrance with minty, sweet, and faintly licorice-like notes. Like all Agastache, it is a powerhouse for pollinators: bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds work it constantly from midsummer through fall. The dried flowers and foliage hold fragrance well, making it useful beyond the garden.
Growing Information
Rose Mint Agastache thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established and actually performs better in leaner soils than in rich, moist conditions. Plants reach 2-3 feet tall and bloom from midsummer until frost. Deadhead spent spikes to encourage continued flowering, or leave them standing for birds to harvest seed through winter. Hardy in most zones; cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring.
Traditional Use
Agastache species have been used by various Native American peoples of the plains and Southwest, who traditionally valued the aromatic leaves for teas and flavoring. Related species appear in traditional Chinese medicine as well. Herbalists have recognized Agastache as an aromatic herb with a pleasant flavor profile well suited to teas and culinary applications. The leaves and flowers are harvested at peak fragrance.
Care on Arrival
Water gently upon arrival and settle in a sunny, sheltered spot for a day before transplanting. Agastache is tough but benefits from a brief transition after shipping. Transplant into well-drained soil after your last frost date. Avoid planting in low spots where water collects - excellent drainage is key to long-term health. Once established, water sparingly. Expect blooms in the first season.

Pair Rose Mint Agastache with Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum), the classic species with sweet anise fragrance. Catmint and English Lavender share similar sun and drought tolerance and complement the rosy tones beautifully. For a full pollinator garden, add Echinacea and Goldenrod.
