Pink Catmint (Nepeta spp.) offers the same exceptional garden performance as the classic blue-flowered catmint in a softer, warmer rose-pink color that pairs beautifully with other perennials. Billowing mounds of aromatic grey-green foliage are covered in flower spikes from early summer onward, with a strong second flush if cut back after the first bloom. Bees work it constantly. It is one of the most reliably beautiful and low-maintenance perennials available for the herb garden.
Growing Information
Pink Catmint thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, including dry and poor conditions. Like all catmints it is drought-tolerant once established and performs better without rich, moist soil, which causes open, floppy growth. Plants reach 18-24 inches tall and wide. Cut back by half after the first bloom flush to encourage a strong second flowering in late summer or fall. Hardy throughout most of North America and long-lived with good drainage.
Traditional Use
Members of the Nepeta genus have a long history in European and Middle Eastern herbal traditions, valued in folk medicine for centuries for their aromatic properties and gentle character. Catmint and its close relative catnip have appeared in European herbals since at least the medieval period, cultivated in cottage and monastery gardens for both ornamental and practical purposes. The aromatic foliage has been traditionally used in teas and simple herbal preparations.
Care on Arrival
Water upon arrival and settle in a sunny spot before transplanting. Catmint is resilient and adapts readily. Transplant into well-drained soil after your last frost date. Avoid overwatering - catmint prefers drier conditions once established. A top dressing of gravel or coarse sand around the crown helps in heavier soils. Expect vigorous growth and blooming in the first season.

Pair Pink Catmint with classic blue Catmint for a harmonious color combination in the same plant. Catnip is the strongly aromatic relative with the most substantial folk herbal tradition. For a complete aromatic perennial border, combine with English Lavender, Hyssop, and Anise Hyssop.
