Foeniculum vulgare is a lovely and useful plant. Hardy in Zones 6 - 9, it is grown as a biennial in lower zones. Fennel is one of the earliest plants to appear in the Spring, and will flourish all the way until a hard freeze.

Florence fennel has feathery foliage and makes a fresh herb starter for indoor gardens and organic gardening. It is not a mint plant, but fennel is linked to traditional Chinese medicine and natural remedy use. It also makes a thoughtful choice for gifts for her or gifts for mom.
