Eclipta alba (bhringraj) is less known in Western herbalism but highly valued in Ayurveda, where it's called "the ruler of hair" for its traditional use promoting healthy hair growth. The small white daisy-like flowers and creeping habit give it an understated presence, but this plant is powerful medicine in the traditions that work with it.

An annual or short-lived perennial in most climates, eclipta appreciates full sun to part shade and consistent moisture. It spreads along the ground, rooting at nodes, and can become quite vigorous if conditions suit it. The plant blooms prolifically with small white flowers throughout the growing season. In tropical climates it grows year-round; elsewhere it's often grown as an annual.

In Ayurvedic tradition, bhringraj is considered a rasayana — a rejuvenating herb that promotes longevity and vitality. Herbalists traditionally work with it for liver health and cooling excess heat in the body. The whole plant is used, traditionally as fresh juice or dried powder. Its Sanskrit name means "ruler of hair," and oil infused with bhringraj remains a traditional hair treatment across India and Southeast Asia. Western herbalists are increasingly recognizing this plant's traditional applications.
