Bacopa (Bacopa monnieri), also known as water hyssop or brahmi, is a low-growing, creeping perennial native to wetlands throughout Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Its small, succulent leaves and delicate white to pale lavender flowers form dense, mat-like ground cover that is as beautiful as it is botanically fascinating.
Bacopa thrives in consistently moist to wet conditions and can even grow partially submerged — making it an excellent choice for water gardens, pond edges, or containers kept moist. It prefers full sun to partial shade and is a warm-season grower that will appreciate protection from frost. Once established in the right conditions, it spreads easily and rewards consistent moisture with vigorous growth.
Bacopa holds a revered place in Ayurvedic tradition, where it has been used for centuries as a nervine and adaptogenic herb. Historically associated with mental clarity, calm focus, and memory support, it is one of the most studied herbs in the Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia. Traditional preparations included fresh juice, ghee infusions, and decoctions. Modern interest in this plant continues to grow alongside the long tradition of its use.
This plant is offered for cultivation purposes and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before use.
